"Warm Heart Pastry" and Billy Nicholls

"Warm Heart Pastry" and Billy Nicholls

Postby super-chicken » Sat Mar 15, 2003 7:55 pm

Well, well hello!

Can anyone fill me in on the song "Warm Heart Pastry"? From what I know, it was apparently a recording done by Pete Townshend, Ronnie Lane, Keith Moon and some other musician whose name escapes me. I downloaded the song from "audiogalaxy" and it sounds great, I'd likening it to "Won't Get Fooled Again" by the Who. I do know that it was featured on a Mike Heron album and was credited as being performed by "Tommy and the Bijous". But if anyone has any more helpful info on this I'd like to know, just because I'm just that passionate about this stuff!

Oh yeah, while I'm at it, I'd like to know if anyone has heard any of Billy Nicholls' solo albums. I have all of his solo stuff on CD. All of them are extraordinary, but his "Love Songs" album is the one that surpasses them all. Every song on it is a gem. I even demanded that the song "Stay Awhile" from the album to be played at my brother's wedding, and it was of course! I got quite a few people slow dancing that one and I'm quite sure none of them even knew what song it was. So that was pretty cool. Wow, I've got so much to say and so little time to say it in. So if anyone could help fill me in on these little mysterious tidbits, I'd be ever so grateful.

Thanx,

Dear Mr(or is it Ms?)Chicken

have you tried Billy's site for a copy of Love songs? there is a link to it on the Links page here ,you could well strike lucky or Billy could probably point you in the right direction.

Did you know that Love Songs was the very first album to be recorded on Ronnie's mobile studio. Billy couldn't believe his luck as he recieved a call from Ronnie saying "got any songs Billy, I wanna check out my new mobile" Billy told him he did but said "what am I gonna do about musicians" Ronnie said "don't worry about that" and when Billy arrived he found Ronnie,Woody, I think Mickey Waller and a couple of other fantastic musicians waiting for him, talk about result !! Forgive the artistic liscence but that was certainly the gist of the conversation anyway.

If you're interested in Billy's stuff you maybe interested to know that he's in the studio at the moment putting the finishing touches to his new album. He's working with his brother Mike and son Morgan and I think his daughter helps out a bit as well.

Morgan Nicholls released a great album of Hammond based funky tunes a couple of years ago . Billy's all over that album as well and I believe you can order it from his site as well.

Ahem...

Sorry....

*breathes deeply* Are you trying to tell me in a sort of indirect roundabout type of way that there was actually a recording made by KEITH JOHN MOON, PETER DENNIS BLANDFORD TOWNSHEND *and* RONALD FREDERICK LANE - ALL AT THE SAME TIME?!?!?!?!?!

Oh my god....

I'll just have to go and lie down in a darkened room for a few hours. All THREE of them, in the same studio at the same TIME?!?!? Oh god oh god oh god oh god...!

*crawls away, gasping for breath*

Spevvers

Ronnie played with Blandford on numerous occasions, some recorded some not, recorded stuff includes Rough Mix of course but 'Trousers' also played on Mahoney's Last Stand and they also did a few Meher Baba things together. The generous nosed one also Jammed with the embryonic Faces at the Stones Bermondsey rehearsal space just after Steve M left and before Woody joined.

As for Moony Ronnie did a famous (well alright not that famous) gig with him at the Rainbow for Roy Harper's Valentine concert (circa 74), the band that night consisted of Roy Harper,Jimmy Page,Ronnie and Moony. I've been corresponding with someone who took some photos that night and haven't given up hope that ther'll be some film of the gig as well ,though it is a long shot!!

PS, No, Keith Moon and Ronnie Lane aren't my two biggest heroes from the 60s and 70s at all, whatever gave you that impression?!

whoooaaaa steady girl !!!!!!

I said it's a LONG SHOT !!! photo's probably yes but film who knows?!!

The better chance of photos would be from the Small Faces/Who down under tour in 68. There's a book all about the tour (it's a small book) and I believe there's quite a few pics. Never seen a copy myself but some of the Gropers are bound to have a copy

It's not the ownership, it's just the knowledge that these things are actually in existence... *goes all starry eyed*

Hm. Maybe I should lay off the caffiene for a while?
