Liner Notes for "It's All About the Children"

The world’s children are its future. This belief led Kenney Jones — one of rock music’s most successful and enduring drummers — to establish The Small Faces All Children’s Charitable Trust. Named after the legendary sixties group The Small Faces, of which he was a founding member, the charity supports children and children’s projects in the UK and around the world. 

“Most charities are based around a specific disease, affliction, geography or category,” says Kenney. “Yet the fact is that real needs often don’t neatly match such carefully defined criteria. The aim of our charity is to provide support where other assistance is not available. The only criterion our charity embraces is that of helping all children in difficulty as best we can.”  SFCT is proud to be associated with other charities, such as the STARS Foundation and its partner charities - including UNICEF and The Nelson Mandela Foundation.   

The Small Faces were one of the top bands of the sixties with a string of hits including All or Nothing, Watcha Gonna Do About It, Lazy Sunday Afternoon and Itchycoo Park and, in Ogden’s Nut Gone Flake, one of the first ever concept albums. Following Steve Marriott’s departure to create new ‘super band’ Humble Pie, The Small Faces itself became a super band adding Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood to its line up. Another string of hits followed with Kenney later moving on to join The Who and Ronnie, who also features on this record, to join the Rolling Stones. 

Alongside Ronnie Wood and singer Paul Young, who supported and performed on this record (for which a big ‘thank you’, guys), the record also features Kenney’s new group ‘The Action’.  The line up includes Kenney himself, singer Robert Hart (formerly with Bad Company), lead guitarist Gary Grainger (formerly with Rod Stewart’s band) and Rick Wills (formerly with Foreigner). 

The song itself was written by Kenney Jones, Robert Hart and Gary Grainger in response to the words of Nelson Mandela and remarks by Queen Rania of Jordan, which also became the stimulus for last year's United Nations Special Session on Children. ‘It’s All About The Children’ is about helping the children of the world who are the world’s very future. Although estimates vary, it is thought that there are more than 60 million children around the world living on less than a dollar a day.  More than 100 million are denied access to even basic primary education. Even worse, every three seconds somewhere in the world a child dies for lack of basic resources.  

All proceeds from record sales will go to The Small Faces Charitable Trust for distribution to children’s projects in the UK and around the world.
