Wrinkly rockers were so shocked by Ronnie Lane's death that they ran into an Irish studio for a late night recording.

Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood, 50, Def Leppard frontman Joe Elliott, 38, and bass guitarist Rich Savage, 37, joined Seventies glam rock legend Ian Hunter of Mott The Hoople in Dublin's Bow Lane studios. Ian was celebrating his 51st birthday in Dublin's Whelans when news broke of Ronnie's death.

He was the former bassist for Rod Stewart's The Faces which Ronnie Wood left in 1975 to join the Stones.

East Londoner Ronnie, who co-founded the Small Faces in 1969 and wrote many chart- toppers, passed away in Colorado from multiple sclerosis.

He was only 51 and rockers in Dublin decided to lay down tracks fearing the grim reaper could strike at any time.

They finished four tracks during a super all-night session before hitting the early opening pubs to wake goodbye Irish-style to their great colleague.
