On the town Ronnie Lane reunites with his former Faces bandmate Ian McLagan at the Continental Club in a warm-up gig for their tour of Japan. Lane and his band will be in the middle slot; Larry Seaman and Collette Haney open the show at 10, with Fur Dixon & Blow Up closing out the evening. City Council Member Max Nofziger celebrates his birthday at Liberty Lunch with a 7 p.m. concert featuring Asleep at the Wheel and the Mady Kaye Quintet. Hole in the Wall holds a medical expenses benefit for musician Ike Ritter, a former member of the Bizarros, with Shiva's Headband, Teisco Del Rey, Junior Brown, the Dickie Lee Erwin Band and others from 6 p.m.-2 a.m. In San Marcos, Bucky Einstein, Primitive Moderns and the Neptunes play a benefit for the Shive Center from 4-8 p.m. at Devereaux Oyster Bar. I-Tex is at Green Mesquite, the Vanguards are at Blue Bayou, and Paul Orta & the Kingpins are at Antone's. The Suzi Stern Quintet does a live recording at Chicago House, Tony Campise is at Chez Fred Crossroads, and the Jes Grew Quartet is at Massimo's.

Spanish dancing San Antonio native Eduardo Montemayor spent six years during the 1980s studying flamenco, ballet and Spanish folk dancing in Madrid. He returned home in 1986 and has been putting his education to use since then with Ballet Fantasia Espanola, a song-and-dance group with which he will perform two shows tonight at La Zona Rosa. Showtimes are 8 and 10 p.m.; admission is $5.

On the tube The last two spots in the Final Four will be determined today in NCAA tournament games televised by CBS. Minnesota and Georgia Tech square off in the Southeast Regional finals at 12:30 p.m., followed by the West Regional championship game between Loyola Marymount and Nevada-Las Vegas at 3 p.m. . . . Anthony Quinn and Gary Cole star in a new TV-movie production of Ernest Hemingway's classic novel The Old Man and the Sea at 8 p.m. on NBC. Best of the rest Ann Worley, the Texas Education Association's 1989 elementary art educator of the year, gives a tour of Laguna Gloria Art Museum's "Feather, Fur and Fin" exhibit at 2 p.m. Admission is free. . . . KVUE meteorologist Troy Kimmel talks about weather patterns and phenomena at 2 p.m. at Discovery Hall in observance of World Meteorological Day. Admission is $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for children. . . . KUT-FM plays selections from its new compilation CD LiveSet: On Air from 8-9 p.m. The CD, which features songs by Butch Hancock & the Sunspots, David Halley, Kim Wilson, the late Bill Neely and several others, is available with a membership subscription to the station.
